We Don’t Get Tired

“I was wondering what would break first…your spirit…or your body!” -Bane (The Dark Knight Rises-2012)

Let’s Go 2 Work.

“We don’t get tired, we get warmed up!” My boxing coach Vrillo loves to tell me this every time I claim to be exhausted. I’ve been training with him for two years and although he’s made me repeat this exact combination of words hundreds of times, it never really made any sense to me… until now.

Two weeks ago, I had a sparring session and I won’t lie, I was gassed. At the end of each round, I returned to my corner gasping for air with my head down and my feet dragging. Unbeknownst to me, my opponent was watching me. At the end of the match, he told me that my defeated demeanor gave him power. The following week, regardless of how tired I felt, I refused to show him any weakness. Both him and my coach told me that I seemed like a completely different fighter. My sparring partner remarked, “There was one time I thought I had you down, but you kept going, and that shit drained my energy.”

You never know who’s watching you at your corner. Therefore, at all times…ACT.

ACT like you’re just getting warmed up even though you feel like you're about to fucking die.

ACT unbothered even though your girl is on some 24-karat bullshit.

ACT like a winner even though you’ve tried and failed at everything you’ve done.

Regardless of how you feel, NEVER slouch, stand tall, and keep your head to the sky.

Because we don’t get tired, we get warmed up.
